Welcome to the Federal Cooperative College, Ibadan. It gives me great pleasure, on behalf of the students and staff of this college to welcome all of you into our midst, I congratulate you on your choice of this college and your success in gaining admission into this great institution of learning. Your success signifies that you moved to yet another stage in your search for knowledge, having passed through the preliminary educational stages.
As you undertake your academic sojourn in this college, you are reminded that educational training in the higher institution is quite different from the previous stage you have passed. The college environment is national in character, you are likely to meet people of diverse culture, ideals and temperaments, hence there will be need for you to recondition your behavior in order to accommodate people whose modes of life differ from yours. This is necessary in order to engender harmonious co-existence. You will also have the advantage of availing yourself of some insight into the cultures of people you will meet in future as you move away from your own cultural background.
As regards academic work, the college presents different types of challenge from the ones you had in the previous stages of your educational career.
The college is not a place for one textbook subject or course. It is certainly a place of research and thorough evaluation.
Thus, the basis of your success is your hard work. You have to improve on your methods of study and condition your mind so that you become an effective student. Your daily activities inside or outside the classroom count in the end, towards your success or failure. Your admission has offered you an opportunity to improve your knowledge; it now behooves you to work hard in order to take full advantages of this opportunity.
Morally, there is a lot for you to do to enjoy your stay here. We do not offer moral instruction as a subject or course since it is assumed that you have been exposed to so much of it earlier on. However, the college abhors cultism and every other anti-social behavior. Stiff penalty (as spelt out in the College Students' Handbook) awaits any offender.
The college has rules and regulations, most of which are contained in this students handbook. Study them carefully ensuring that you understand and abide strictly by them. The holy books advocate as follows "Hear my son and accept my words that the years of your life may be many".
This implies that if you obey the rules and regulations of the college, your days in the college will be enjoyable and fruitful.
The college is challenged to provide skilled man power that will provide solution to problems associated with poverty, mass illiteracy and national economic underdevelopment. It is also poised to provide an enabling environment for the provision of sound education, economic empowerment and appropriate acquisition of entrepreneurial skills.
Finally, you are heartily welcome to our College, now also your College. It is our sincere wish to help you become future role models. The college has a lot to offer you as long as you are willing to accept such offers. God Bless.
